Robbie Johnsons
About This Spot
Stepping into Robbie Johnsons is like slipping into a cherished local retreat where time eases its pace just enough for you to settle in and breathe. Nestled in the heart of Hull’s town centre, this coffee shop carries a quietly welcoming spirit—a blend of familiar comfort and attentive care that naturally invites conversation and calm moments alike.
The atmosphere here is unpretentious, edged with the soft clatter of cups and the murmur of community. Whether you’re popping in for a morning coffee that arrives with the gentle warmth one hopes for or lingering over a midday meal, there’s a rhythm to the place that feels thoughtful and unhurried. The staff move with approachable ease, attentive without rushing, creating a space where even casual visits become subtly memorable.
The offerings at Robbie Johnsons echo that sense of homegrown simplicity enriched by a careful touch. Think of a mid-morning arrival greeted by a perfectly brewed cappuccino and the comforting, honest flavours of a mushroom omelette or a toasted sandwich that’s as satisfying as it is unpretentious. Lunchtime often carries the promise of more substantial dishes—something textured and familiar like a creamy quiche or a hearty baguette—crafted not just to fill but to soothe. And always, there’s space for a quietly indulgent finish, whether that’s a slice of velvety chocolate cake or a delicately tart slice of cheesecake that hints at slow afternoons and good company.
What quietly sets Robbie Johnsons apart is a genuine steadiness in its community ties. Regulars find it a steady harbour; newcomers are welcomed without fuss. The owner’s openness and care lightly infuse the atmosphere, ensuring every guest’s small preferences are met with kindness. This attentiveness without fanfare flavors the experience far beyond the menu.
For those exploring Hull’s bustling streets, Robbie Johnsons offers a moment of stillness—a chance to catch a breath, share a simple meal, or just watch the town whirl past the window while savoring a well-loved local spot. It’s the kind of place that feels both tucked away and exactly where it should be.

Been coming here for years, and even though there's been a management change, the quality of the food and service has not changed. Any problems are sorted, quickly and efficiently, not that we've had any. Alex the owner, doesn't mind if we share a dish, like today's ploughman's lunch. My mother often has a small appetite. Always room for pudding. Would recommend that if you're in the town centre, give it a try.

First time in years visiting this place. It is always a pleasure to visit. Kind friendly staff and exceptional food and prices. Great idea location while visiting the town centre. Milkshakes are a must try! Or even just a simple coffee.

Excellent quality afternoon tea. Staff were very accommodating and we were chuffed to see Yorkshire curd cheesecake was available. Sandwiches were also delicious - so much filling! We can't comment on the price as we were given a voucher as a gift.

Brilliant cafe to visit for a bit of class. My wife and her mum visit often and rave about it so when I was in town, I took my daughter. Now she has been several times and said it's so popular, you will habe to wit for a table at lunchtime. We were there at 3pm so quite a few tables available. They have a very nice menu with toasties, panninis, jackets and salads etc. All around the £6 mark. It's all freshly made to order and very fine indeed. I had a chicken, bacon and cheese baggett which came with salad and my daughter had a tuna and cheese one. Someone had a jacket and it was huge with masdive toppings. Coffee is also available in a cafetiere which hold 1.5 cups and for £2.70, good value. They have 3 strengths. Now, their home made cakes ate just ain amazing. We had 3 portions of carrot cake and at £2.50 per slice, for the dize and quality, perfect. Absolutely fab. Lovely staff too. Clean toilets just up a short stair case. A perfect lunch. All in all 25 quid. Visit this place and keep a quality independent cafe on the map.
